EPOS

Innovative Education towards
 the Needs of the Organic Sector

Aims

The EPOS project supports cooperation between seven European universities to develop, test and implement innovative educational approaches addressing the needs of the labour market in European organic sector and beyond.

The high quality international, comprehensive knowledge in the area of organic food, unavailable in standard educational programme of a single university, will be transferred to wide community of students with the use of highly innovative tools and educational methods.

The set of methods will be attuned to address European employers’ expectations, both sector-specific and general (including e.g. strengthening of students’ team working skills, communication skills, computer skills, ability to adapt to new situations, analytical and problem solving skills, and fluent communication in English).

As recommended by the 2011 EU Modernisation Agenda, cooperation with employers and providing practical experience is foreseen in the plan of the project activities. Development and implementation of innovative, labour market relevant teaching approaches will enhance the quality of education and, in perspective, improve students’ employability.

The project addresses the key issues of the ‘Agenda for the modernisation of Europe’s higher education systems 2011’, as well as priorities and aims of the Erasmus+ Programme. It also addresses majority of the specific aims of the strategic partnership projects (as listed in the Erasmus+ Programme Guide).

Work programme

The project is divided into 4 phases:

(1) Analysis of needs of the labour market in organic sector;

(2) Preparation of innovative educational materials and methods;

(3) Testing and improving the developed materials and methods (e-learning programme, intensive study programme in Warsaw, students internships/projects with stakeholders representing organic sector);

(4) Implementation of the methods & dissemination.

Keeping constant track of the project progress and therefore successful achievement of the objectives of each of the phases is possible thanks to the regular Transnational Project Meetings (4 meetings during the course of the project – Witzenhausen, Warsaw, Madrid and Tuscia) and numerous Skype conferences
